The Thomson Jazz Club was formed in 1993 by Eddie Chan Fook Pong as an activity of the Thomson Community Club. Its aims are to promote jazz listener ship in Singapore and to provide facilities for playing jazz.

Starting with the Thomson Big Band, the Club has grown substantially in the last 2 years. Membership has swelled to more than 100 members and we now have 3 performing big bands. Thomson Swing is fast developing a reputation of its own while our third band made its public debut in December 1999.

We also encourage the formation of smaller jazz ensembles and they have performed at public and private functions, such as Robertson Walk and similar grounds. Members from the big bands occasionally come together to form smaller groups. These smaller ensembles play a wide variety of jazz styles ranging from bebop to fusion jazz.

Equipped with 2 air-conditioned rehearsal studios, AV facilities, a performance
auditorium plus a modern recording studio, the Club is busiest on Sunday afternoons when our big bands rehearse and a jam session takes place in the 2nd floor auditorium every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month.

Our Bands perform frequently at public venues and commercial engagements and seek opportunities to perform overseas. We frequently organise workshops and courses for our members to hone their playing skills ,technique and knowledge. At the very least you get to meet nice people in the local jazz scene. If you are into jazz, or want to find out what jazz is - come check us out! Bring your horn, guitar ,sticks or just your hands, voice - it could be the start of a whole new love affair.
